Taylor Jenkins opens up on talks with Giannis Antetokounmpo

As Taylor Jenkins was officially unveiled as the next head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, conversation about the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo looms large over the organization. The two-time MVP has been the center of trade chatter since last offseason and commanded a significant trade market during the deadline in February.

But, as the trade saga continues, Jenkins expressed that he and Antetokounmpo have spoken and that the interactions have been positive with him as he’s onboarded into his new position.

“Great communication with Giannis. He’s expressed tremendous excitement for me and my family, obviously even only being here for one season, he and I established a really good relationship and maintain that respect even from a distance. It’s been amazing to be able to communicate with all these guys…Yes, I’ve had conversations with Giannis, but it’s been great.”

Taylor Jenkins does, indeed, have a history with the Milwaukee Bucks. He followed former Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer from the Atlanta Hawks to the Bucks and was hired as an assistant during the 2018-2019 season. That season was particularly pivotal for both the Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo, as it was the year he won his 1st MVP and the Bucks won 60 games. They went on to make the Eastern Conference Finals, eventually losing to Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors 4-2.

Now, Jenkins wants to bring a similar level of success back to the Bucks organization that they enjoyed in the early years of Budenholzer’s tenure.

“When you watch the Bucks, you’re going to be proud when you leave Fiserv Forum…our team’s going to play with pride to represent our city,” he said.
