talkSPORT betting tips – Best golf bets and expert advice for the Canadian Open

The Canadian Open is this week’s offering on the PGA Tour with a stellar field, headlined by Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick, heading to TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley to take on the challenging North Course.

New Zealand’s Ryan Fox claimed the spoils when this venue hosted for the first time last year, edging Sam Burns in a play-off, and those two are 60/1 and 14/1 respectively to triumph this year.

Tommy Fleetwood has also made the trip to Ontario as he, and several other players in attendance, look to give themselves one last boost before next week’s US Open at Shinnecock Hills.

Canadian Open betting tips

  • Matt Fitzpatrick to win and each-way @ 12/1
  • Top American – Brooks Koepka @ 14/1

Fitzpatrick ready to swoop

Matt Fitzpatrick has been one of the in-form players on the PGA Tour this season, having won the Valspar Championship and RBC Heritage while taking the Zurich Classic title alongside his brother, Alex.

The Englishman is someone who likes to play the week before a Major, evidenced by the fact he secured a top-10 finish at the 2022 Canadian Open before then winning the US Open.

A victory this week would send Fitzpatrick to Shinnecock Hills in high spirits, and he looks to have every chance of accomplishing this.

Fitzpatrick is third in strokes gained tee to green and fifth in approach – two areas which were key to Fox’s triumph last year – and a third individual victory of the year could be in the offing.

Koepka set for strong return

Brooks Koepka is appearing for the first time since the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and he should be refreshed and ready to go for this Toronto outing.

The five-time Major winner, who will be eyeing a third US Open success next week, has posted three top-15 finishes over his last four starts and he looks to be close to putting it all together.

Koepka is sixth in tee to green and fourth in approach for strokes gained and those facets of his game can help him enjoy a strong week.

A victory could be slightly out of his reach, but the Top American market is an interesting betting heat and he offers good value at 14/1.

Willett in line for solid outing

2016 Masters champion Danny Willett has been dogged by injuries for several years but he is slowly starting to show some of the form that helped him win the Green Jacket at Augusta.

The Englishman was tied-seventh at the KLM Open on Sunday – his best result of the year – and it was notable how sharp his approach play was.

Willett was 13th in greens in regulation and 16th in strokes gained approach, while his ranking of eighth in SG putting highlights how impressive that club was.

The 38-year-old was 13th on his Toronto debut last year and he looks capable of improving on that effort.
