Suns’ Dillon Brooks gets 100% real on referees after Game 2 defeat to Thunder

Safe to say, Dillon Brooks is not a favorite of the referees. Well, the feeling is mutual.

The Phoenix Suns fell to 2-0 in their first-round series against the Oklahoma City Thunder after losing in Game 2, 120-107, at Paycom Center on Wednesday.

Brooks tried to spearhead a rally in the fourth quarter after trailing by as much as 26 points. They, however, ran out of steam and now face an uphill climb against the defending champions.

Devin Booker went scorched earth on the referees after the game, questioning their integrity. Brooks echoed Booker, suggesting that the referees should also be interviewed after each game, as shown in the video posted by The Arizona Republic’s Duane Rankin.

“That should be a new thing in the NBA. Officials got to explain themselves because it’s getting ridiculous. As you can see, when it starts to get fiery and no control out there, now they’re just whistling on one side,” said Brooks.

Brooks led the Suns with a team-high 30 points, including five three-pointers, and six rebounds.

He had a verbal tussle with Lu Dort, his teammates on Canada’s national team, in the second half, highlighting Brook’s innate competitiveness. They were both whistled for a technical foul.

“I’m on the court, I don’t care who it is. Anybody on the court, I’m going right at you,” stated Brooks.

Since last season, fans have complained that the referees are favoring the Thunder, particularly Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, giving him too many free throws. Gilgeous-Alexander has brushed off the theory.

The Suns will try to bounce back in Game 3 at Mortgage Matchup Center on Saturday.
