Suns’ Dillon Brooks drops villainous clapback to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Cancun diss

On Monday night, the Oklahoma City Thunder dispatched of the Phoenix Suns, eliminating them from the playoffs with a 131-122 victory to complete the series sweep. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was once again the main man, dropping 31 points to lead OKC past a pesky Phoenix team that was playing with a great sense of desperation with their season on the line.

Gilgeous-Alexander, characteristically, posted another one of his signature poems to celebrate the Thunder’s latest achievement — becoming the first team to advance to the second round of the playoffs for the second consecutive campaign.

But he added a spicy twist to his post on Instagram, as he featured an edited image of Suns forward Dillon Brooks wearing a “Cancun on 3” jersey, making fun of the fact that his Canadian brethren bowed out of the playoffs by his hands.

The poem the Thunder star wrote also ridiculed Brooks’ reputation as a “villain”. This, clearly, did not sit well with the Suns forward, who commented a clapback against Gilgeous-Alexander’s remarks.

“Sounds like a ghost writer – The Villain,” Brooks wrote.

Of course, this is just banter between two teammates on the Canadian national basketball team, although this does look very inflammatory to those who aren’t very familiar with the two’s working dynamic.

Gilgeous-Alexander can talk all the smack he wants considering he’s arguably the best player in the NBA on inarguably the best team in the association. But that doesn’t mean that Brooks is just going to take whatever the Thunder star says lying down.

Brooks, for better or for worse, is always going to punch back, and perhaps he did strike a nerve by saying outright that Gilgeous-Alexander himself isn’t the one coming up with his little works of literature.

Whatever the case may be, the Suns have to be very happy that they have Brooks on their side as someone who will fight for them even after being eliminated from championship contention.
