Kyle Brandt confirms emotional exit from CBS with broadcaster set for new job at rival network

Kyle Brandt has announced he will no longer appear on The NFL Today show, ending his five-season run contributing to CBS program.

In a post on X, Brandt thanked the network for offering him the kind of ‘creative freedom’ that he couldn’t have found on any other pregame show.

“Thank you to my friends at The NFL Today on CBS,” he posted Monday.

“We say goodbye after 5 years of One Shot / Many Takes.

“It’s very challenging to do something original on a pregame show, and the creative freedom + production value you gave me was staggering.”

Brandt first started appearing as a regular on CBS in 2022, when the network enlisted him to make appearances alongside former Good Morning Football (GMFB) colleague Nate Burleson.

He was afforded the freedom to build cinematic, single-take video essays, which eventually turned into the unique One Shot / Many Takes feature referenced in his goodbye message.

In those segments, Brandt provided his expert commentary in a one-shot, storytelling style.

After he announced his news, NFL legend turned analyst J.J. Watt led the reaction on social media.

“We could never wait to see what in the world you were going to do next. Thoroughly, thoroughly impressive and will certainly be missed brother,” Watt posted on X.

“You were the highlight of the show, will be missed,” another fan said.

“It was a great segment and I’m sad to see it go,” a third said of One Shot / Many Takes.

“You’re one of my favorites! Sorry to hear that, CBS’ and our loss,” a fourth wrote.

But while one door closes for the much-loved NFL broadcaster, another one opens.

Kyle Brandt to set for big role in ESPN’s football coverage

According to Front Office Sports, Brandt is set to appear on more ESPN shows, as the ‘Worldwide Leader in Sports’ furthers its NFL Network integration.

Disney acquired NFL Network in a deal finalized earlier this year, and while the move has led to multiple layoffs, it has also seen talent shared between programs.

Earlier this month Brandt, the last remaining original co-host of NFL Network’s GMFB, appeared on ESPN’s Get Up morning show.

He has been touted for a ‘recurring weekly perch’ by Awful Announcing.

Other NFL Network talents, like insider Ian Rapoport, have also debuted on ESPN.

Rapoport appeared on NFL Live in May, and later shared the screen alongside his longtime rival, Adam Schefter on a special Pat McAfee show.

Brandt has also been steadily folded into ESPN’s wider coverage, and appeared for the NFL Draft back in April, where he also reunited with longtime GMFB co-host Peter Schrager, who joined the network ahead of him.

Training camp has now arrived ahead of the 2026 NFL season, and Brandt is expected to be a regular feature in the coming weeks, and beyond into the fall.
