Stevenage vs Stockport predictions

Stevenage relied on a last minute winner against Wigan to claim the final play-off spot in League One, finishing just a point above Luton, who were hoping to get into the play-offs themselves with a spectacular run of form at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Interestingly, none of the teams who finished in the play-offs won three in their last five, only Stevenage and Stockport won twice recently, with Stockport losing twice and winning twice.

This just to suggest, there’s no guarantees in this league this year and as such is wide open especially given how close all teams finished to each other.

Goals favour Stockport?

Stockport scored three goals in three of their last five games, going goalless against Mansfield and scoring just once and losing to already relegated Port Vale.

When playing Bolton in what looked like a play-off decider they drew 2-2 in a thriller that could be replicated at Wembley if both teams progress.

The game saw both sides equalise and go in front at different stages in the game and even saw Louie Barry sent off in the final minute.

Stockport also scored three in two successive games prior to that against Wimbledon and Wycombe.

Stevenage needed a win against a Wigan side not fighting for much and had to rely on a last minute winner to send them here.

And have been part of many 1-0’s this season but more so recently, either winning or losing by this scoreline in six of their last ten games.

They did beat Stockport 2-1 back in February, only the second game in which they scored two in their last 14 matches, the only other coming against Lincoln.

As such it looks a great bet to see Stockport come out on top in this clash.

Stevenage did the double over Stockport this season, also winning 3-1 away from home in the reverse fixture back in December, but prior to that Stockport won 3-0 at home last season, suggesting another game ending in over 2.5 goals.

Players to watch

Going for Stockport means looking at their potential goalscorers which will likely be Kyle Wootton who has managed 18 goals so far this season playing in all 46 games.

Of the 46 he was only a substitute for two of them but always had at least 45 minutes game time.

He’s a safe bet to be involved with in some way whether it be shots on target or goalscorer.

Another player likely to get on target and at potentially much higher odds is set-piece expert Oliver Norwood.

The 35-year-old brings a wealth of experience and consistency having played 41 games this season, scoring eight and assisting 11 in League One.

This game in February also saw as many as seven cards and with everything on the line it wouldn’t be surprising to see a similar kind of outcome with plenty of cards – all seven cards came after the 68th minute.
