Stats: Harmanpreet Kaur becomes first Indian player to cross 1000 WPL runs
Mumbai Indians Women captain Harmanpreet Kaur scripted history with a scintillating knock against the Gujarat Giants by becoming the second-ever batter to complete 1000 runs in the Women’s Premier League after her teammate Nat Sciver-Brunt. She also became only the first Indian player with over a 1000 runs in WPL history.
The milestone came in MI’s thrilling seven-wicket win over GG at Navi Mumbai. Chasing a mammoth 193, the right-hander played a captain's knock, an unbeaten 71 off 43 balls with seven fours and two sixes, to steer her side home with four balls to spare. She also got hold of the Orange Cap, and is the highest run-getter of the ongoing season.
Kaur also becomes the first batter ever to complete 10 half-centuries in WPL history, outdoing Nat Sciver-Brunt and UP Warriorz captain Meg Lanning (9 each), underlining her consistency over the years. She now has 1,016 runs in 30 matches and 29 innings at an average of 46.18 and a strike rate of 146.18 to her name.
Big totals are becoming common: Harmanpreet
The 36-year-old, while speaking in the post-match presentations, reflected on the high-scoring nature of the tournament and how one needs to bat in those conditions.
“I feel nowadays scores like this are becoming normal. If you’re batting first, you have to score close to 200. And if you’re chasing, you have to chase these kinds of totals as well. So that mindset is there. Whenever you go out, you have to bat for your team. That clarity helps,” said Kaur.
The Moga-born's ten half-centuries is also the most in the tournament's history. Coincidentally, she has completed five of them against the Gujarat-based side, also a record for most fifties in WPL against a single opposition. Harmanpreet, surprised with her dominant numbers against the Gujarat Giants, said that her goal is to do well for the team, irrespective of the opponent.
“I didn’t actually know that stat (5 fifties vs Gujarat), but for me, every match is important. I just want to go out there and bat for my team. Whatever comes, I’ll take it,” she concluded.
With this win, MI moved to second place in the points table, with a couple of wins and a loss in their three matches in WPL 2026.
