Spurs vs. Thunder 2026 NBA Western Conference Finals Game 1 prediction, odds, pick

The 2026 Western Conference Finals are here as we bring you another NBA Playoffs prediction and pick for this opening Game 1 between bitter rivals. The San Antonio Spurs will visit the Oklahoma City Thunder in their sixth meeting this season, Spurs wining the regular season series 4-1. Check our NBA Playoffs odds series for the Spurs-Thunder prediction and pick.

The San Antonio Spurs last defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 139-109 in Game 6 to secure a 4-2 win. This comes after a 4-1 win over Portland as the Spurs exact themselves one step closer to the NBA Finals. They’ve exceed everyones expectations on the season and it was clear early on that the defending champions would be the only team standing in their way.

The Thunder have been waiting for an opponent since sweeping the Los Angeles Lakers, continuing their perfect 8-0 run through these NBA Playoffs. Going 16-7 during their championship run last season, they’re on-pace to surpass that mark and have been favored in each of their games throughout this postseason.

Keys to Spurs vs. Thunder Matchup

Over the regular season, this matchup grew into the most intense rivalry in the NBA thanks to the emergence of the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference. At season’s start, it was unclear if any western team could even come close to contending with the Thunder on their quest for back-to-back titles. However, the Spurs exceeded all expectations with their development and became the only team in the NBA to seemingly bully the Thunder during their 4-1 regular season series. Finally, we’ll see which team can tough it out in an actual seven-game series when it matters most.

To this, the Oklahoma City Thunder certainly have the advantage. They’re the returning NBA champions and with back-to-back MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander opening this series at home, the energy should be palpable in their arena. They’re also playing with significant rest following two quick series, so expect them to fully have their legs ready to run and play physical defense on the ball. Their defense is averaging a playoff-high 10.3 steals per game and they’ve clearly given other teams fits on that side of the ball.

Still, the regular season series makes this series all the more intriguing as Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama completely changes the complexion of the Thunder’s offense with his own unique defense. Completely covering the paint and leaking out to the free throw line with his length, he doesn’t allow Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to thrive with his mid-range shooting and floaters. SGA is forced to kick the ball out more often and work around Wembanyama instead of creating his own offense.

For an OKC offense that prides itself on a consistent scoring flow, this opening game will be about finding quality over quantity in their shot selection. The Spurs will also be hanging on De’Aaron Fox’s status ahead of this game as he’s been dealing with an ankle injury, but rookie Dylan Harper should continue making an impact as the Spurs will need all the back court depth they can get.

Spurs vs. Thunder Prediction and Pick

The entire Western Conference playoffs has bee mounting towards this and we’ll finally see if the Spurs can continue their remarkable success over the Thunder when it matters most. The Spurs are certainly feeling things more from an injury and fatigue perspective while the Thunder have cruised without much resistance throughout these playoffs.

I expect this series to go to seven games as Victor Wembanyama should give the reigning champs all they can handle. His individual defense will be key for the Spurs in stopping OKC’s production throughout this series.

However, in Game 1, I think it’s Oklahoma City’s defense that makes the greater impact thanks to their added rest days heading into this game. The energy will be crazy in Oklahoma City and they should open Game 1 with a convincing win.

Final Spurs-Thunder Game 1 Prediction & Pick: Oklahoma City Thunder -6.5 (-110); OVER 220.5 (-110)
