Spurs force Game 7 with blowout of Thunder led by Victor Wembanyama

As it should be, the Western Conference Finals will boil down to one game after the San Antonio Spurs blew out the Oklahoma City Thunder, 118-91, at Frost Bank Center on Thursday to force a winner-take-all Game 7.

On the brink of elimination, the Spurs played with a sense of urgency right from the get-go in Game 6, erecting a double-digit lead, 35-22, in the first quarter.

The Thunder tried to stay afloat, but San Antonio unloaded on the defending champions in the third period, outscoring them, 32-13. From there, it was mere formality.

Victor Wembanyama carried the Spurs with 28 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and three blocks. He shot 10-of-21 from the field, including four three-pointers after drawing blanks in Game 5.

Stephon Castle chipped in 17 points, five rebounds, and nine assists, while Dylan Harper added 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists off the bench.

As worn-out as it sounds, the Spurs simply wanted it more, as they aim to advance to the NBA Finals for the first time since winning the championship in 2014.

Wembanyama skipped the postgame conference after their loss in Game 5, which reflected his dejection after his subpar performance. Fatigue has been the main concern with the two-time All-Star, but he knew he had to suck it up and push himself to the limit in Game 6. Fortunately, the blowout afforded him extra time to rest. He was pulled out with 9:20 left in the contest.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was limited to 15 points on 6-of-18 shooting. He only had three free throws.

The do-or-die Game 7 will be at Paycom Center on Saturday.
