Sporting CP vs Bodo/Glimt predictions
The Bodo/Glimt fairytale has space for at least one more chapter.
It has been an extraordinary few years for the Norwegian club. This is not a historic powerhouse within the Nordic country. Bodo/Glimt only won their first league title in 2020. Since then they have won another three.
Their exploits in Europe have been even more remarkable. In 2021/22, they reached the quarter-finals of the Conference League. In 2024/25, they made it to the last four of the Europa League.
Yet despite those achievements, the Champions League was supposed to be a bridge too far. After all, Glimt had already lost in the qualifying rounds for Europe’s foremost competition three times before.
When they finally made it through this season, the expectation was that Kjetil Knutsen’s men would merely make up the numbers in the league phase.
For a while, it looked like that would indeed be the case. Glimt collected just two points from the first 15 available.
Then came a spirited showing at Signal Iduna Park, as the Norwegians drew 2-2 with Borussia Dortmund. Next up, on matchday seven, Glimt registered a famous 3-1 victory over Manchester City.
Finally, in the last set of league phase fixtures, Glimt won 2-1 at Atletico Madrid to secure a place in the play-offs.
Underdogs once more against Inter, Glimt pulled off a 5-2 aggregate triumph over Inter – last season’s runners-up, no less.
And now they are on the verge of advancing to the quarter-finals. At the midway point of this last-16 tie against Sporting CP, Knutsen’s team are 3-0 up on aggregate.
Even a two-goal defeat on Tuesday would send the Norwegian side, whose stadium holds less than 9,000 fans, through to the last eight. This is the sort of thing that is not supposed to happen in modern European football.
“We feel really good. I liked how we played, especially how we played in the first half. They gave us a lot of space and I think we took the space,” Knutsen said after the first leg, before turning his attention to Tuesday’s rematch.
“It’s a new game, a different game,” he added. “I’m just happy to be finished with this one. So I think we need to use some days now. First of all, it will be a completely different game. So it will be important to prepare well for it.”
Sporting CP vs Bodo/Glimt betting tips
One of Sporting CP or Bodo/Glimt will be in the last eight of the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Glimt to complete job
It is tempting to attribute some of Bodo/Glimt’s success this season to their artificial pitch, the sort of surface that most Champions League teams are not accustomed to playing on.
Yet there is far more to this team than that. Remember, Glimt drew at Borussia Dortmund and won at both Atletico Madrid and Inter. They are more than capable of getting results on opposition grass.
Sporting CP will still believe they can turn this tie around, but unless they can eat away at Glimt’s lead early on, it is hard to see the Portuguese outfit battling back.
Glimt are a canny side and we expect them to soak up pressure in the opening stages, before posing a growing threat on the break as the game wears on. Knutsen’s charges can get something on Tuesday.

Visitors to frustrate hosts
Bodo/Glimt scored five goals against Inter across two legs. In the league phase, they put two past each of Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid, and three past Manchester City.
This is a side which knows where the goal is, and anyone who has watched even highlights of Glimt this season will be aware that they play some lovely stuff.
The priority here, though, will be to keep things tight at the back – and we reckon they will have success in that regard.
Although Sporting CP will fancy their chances of making the net bulge, they will struggle to get the minimum three goals they need. The second leg promises to be lower-scoring than the first.

Hogh can find net
Kasper Hogh scored Bodo/Glimt’s third goal in the first leg, continuing his fine run of form in this competition.
The 25-year-old has now scored five times in his last five appearances in the Champions League. He is full of confidence heading into this match in Lisbon.
Bodo/Glimt had 49 percent possession last time out. With Sporting CP needing to win big at home, Glimt will have less of the ball on Tuesday.
That does not mean they will not create opportunities, though. And given how he has been playing of late, we fancy Hogh to take one of the chances that comes his way.
