Spike Lee getting greedy with Knicks’ NBA title repeat dreams after 53-year drought ends
The New York Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals, securing their first title in 53 years. All of New York erupted in jubilation on Saturday night, partying well into Sunday morning after the Game 5 win. But Knicks celebrity superfan Spike Lee says he already has his eyes on the next NBA Finals.

ABC7 caught up with Lee and actor John Turturro on the court after the NBA Finals trophy presentation. Lee said his first thought after the game was “Thank you, Jesus.” Then he said, “You know what I’m thinking? Back to back!”
The Knicks won their first championship in 1970, quickly following that up with a title in 1973. Lee would direct his breakout hit, Do the Right Thing, co-starring Turturro, 16 years later in 1989. That would launch him into stardom that landed him courtside at Madison Square Garden. Ever since, Lee has been right there for some of the greatest and worst moments in Knicks history.
Reggie Miller’s famous choke-signal celebration was directed right at Lee in 1994. The Knicks beat the Indiana Pacers and went on to the NBA Finals that year, losing to the Houston Rockets. The next year, Lee had the perfect view for Miller’s eight points in nine seconds, which propelled Indiana past New York.
The Knicks then went through a horrendous dry spell in the 21st century, but Lee was there all along. This year, he was part of the travelling celebrity crew that went to all of the NBA Finals games. Timothee Chalamet and Ben Stiller were among that group, and Mariska Hargitay joined the crew of famous Knicks fans, too. But no one was surprised to see Lee everywhere the Knicks went on their incredible run to a championship.
Lee, Turturro, and the rest of the Knicks faithful are now preparing for the parade down the Canyon of Heroes on Thursday.
