Spain vs Saudi Arabia predictions and betting tips – La Roja chase a response in Atlanta
Spain arrive at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium with a point to prove and a goal difference to repair.
Their goalless draw with debutants Cape Verde was one of the shocks of the tournament so far, and another dropped result here would leave Luis de la Fuente’s side sweating on qualification heading into the final round.
Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, will turn up with exactly the game plan that frustrated Spain last week, a deep, disciplined block and a goalkeeper in form. This is the same test Spain just failed, against opponents who passed the other side of it. I expect a different outcome this time, but not a comfortable afternoon.
Here are my three tips for the game:
- Spain to win 2-0 – 5/1 with bet365
- Lamine Yamal to score anytime – 20/21 with bet365
- Spain over 8.5 corners – 7/5 with Sky Bet
Spain vs Saudi Arabia head-to-head overview
- Date: Sunday 21 June 2026
- Kick-off: 5pm (UK)
- Venue: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta
- Where to watch: BBC One, BBC iPlayer
- Referee: Raphael Claus (Brazil)
- Last meeting: Spain 5-0 Saudi Arabia, September 2012 friendly
- Last 10 matches: These two have only met three times in history, so there is no meaningful run of ten to lean on. Spain have won all three, a 1-0 group-stage victory at the 2006 World Cup, a 3-2 friendly in 2010 and a 5-0 friendly in 2012, scoring nine and conceding two across those games.

Spain vs Saudi Arabia predicted lineups
The big call for de la Fuente is at the top end. Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams both came off the bench against Cape Verde, with Yamal introduced around the 70-minute mark, and Spain noticeably lacked a cutting edge without them. I expect both to come straight back into the side here.
Saudi Arabia have every reason to keep faith with the compact shape that earned a point against Uruguay, so I would be surprised to see Georgios Donis change much.
- Spain (4-3-3): Simon; Porro, Cubarsi, Laporte, Cucurella; Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, Pedri; Yamal, Oyarzabal, Nico Williams
- Saudi Arabia (4-4-2): Al-Owais; Al-Majrashi, Al-Amri, Al-Tambakti, Al-Shahrani; Nasser Al-Dawsari, Kanno, Yahya, Salem Al-Dawsari; Al-Buraikan, Al-Shehri
Spain vs Saudi Arabia predictions
Spain’s opener told two stories at once.
They were dominant, 74 per cent possession, 27 shots, seven on target and an expected goals figure north of 2.2, and yet they could not beat 40-year-old Vozinha, who produced the game of his life with seven saves.
The chances were there for Ferran Torres and Oyarzabal, the finishing and the final bit of quality were not, and the absence of Yamal from the start was felt all afternoon.
Saudi Arabia’s draw with Uruguay was the mirror image. Donis set his team up in a tight 4-4-2, sat deep, soaked up pressure and pinched a lead from a corner through Abdulelah Al-Amri. Mohammed Al-Owais then made nine saves to keep them in front until Maxi Araujo equalised late on.
Uruguay had 67 per cent of the ball and 22 second-half shots and still only drew. That is the blueprint Saudi Arabia will bring to Atlanta.
So I am expecting another patient, frustrating game for Spain, but with one crucial difference. With Yamal starting, Spain have the individual quality to unpick a deep block that Cape Verde did not have to face for the full ninety.
I will go with a 2-0 Spain win, the breakthrough coming after the interval.
Spain vs Saudi Arabia betting tips
Here are my three bets for the game.
Spain to find a way through
Spain are unbackably short in the match-winner market, so the value is in the scoreline rather than the result. A 2-0 win is a logical outcome of a favourite grinding down a low block, Spain score, then add a second once the game stretches.
Saudi Arabia are unlikely find the set-piece goal they nicked against Uruguay. It also reflects my read that this will be a controlled win, not a rout.
Bet on Spain to win 2-0 at 5/1 with bet365
Yamal to unlock the block
If anyone is going to cut this Saudi defence open, it is the man Spain missed last week. Yamal is the designated block-breaker, coming in off the right to create chaos in tight spaces, and starting from the first whistle changes Spain’s attack entirely.
Against opponents who will commit numbers behind the ball, his ability to manufacture something from nothing is exactly what de la Fuente needs.
Bet on Lamine Yamal to score anytime at 20/21 with bet365
Corners to pile up
This is the cleanest way to back the shape of the game without relying on a goal.
A side that parks the bus concedes corners, and the evidence is fresh, Uruguay won 14 corners against this exact Saudi block, while Spain themselves racked up 11 against Cape Verde. With Spain camped in the Saudi half for long spells, the corner count should climb quickly.
Bet on Spain over 8.5 corners at 7/5 with Sky Bet
