This year’s Six Nations Championship gets underway with the competition’s first ever Thursday night game as France and Ireland, the winners of the last two editions of the tournament, go head to head at the Stade de France.

France are the defending champions and will head into this year’s edition of the tournament as odds on favourites to defend their crown and win a record breaking eighth Six Nations title, with three home fixtures this year split between Paris and Lille.

England are priced as the second favourites for victory in this year’s tournament as they bid for a first title since 2020. Steve Borthwick’s side, like France, also have a record seven Six Nations titles to their name since the addition of Italy in 2000.

The final match of this season’s Championship will see the top two favourites, France and England, face off for a potential Grand Slam decider in Paris on 14th March.

Ireland, winners of two of the last three Six Nations Championships, are also firmly in the running but face tough away matches against France and England this year, though will certainly back themselves at a record-equalling seventh title should they win Thursday’s opener.

Scotland will be expected to finish fourth in this year’s edition but will face a tough test in Rome in this weekend’s opening round against arguably the best Italian side in history who will fancy their chances at beating the Scots on Saturday and equalling their best ever finish of fourth place.

Wales have finished have been handed the Wooden Spoon in each of the last two years of the competition, despite winning the title as recently as 2021, there isn’t much scope for optimism this time around, their Super Saturday game at home against Italy by far their best chance at a win on the final day of the campaign.
