Shai Gilgeous-Alexander takes home MVP by eye-popping margin
The Oklahoma City Thunder produced the league’s reigning Most Valuable Player once again. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is now the 14th NBA player ever to win it a second straight year. But was he the unanimous choice amid this NBA Playoffs run?
SGA beat out two other names in Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama, so he wasn’t the only one in the running. However, SGA won by this eye-popping margin:
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander received 83 1st place votes to win the 2025-26 MVP, the NBA has announced.
Nikola Jokic finished 2nd place in voting, with 10 1st place votes, followed by Victor Wembanyama, who claimed 5 1st place votes

The Denver Nuggets star came in second by 73 first place votes. It’s one of the largest margins for an MVP win in recent memory. But SGA clearly started distancing himself in the MVP race with some dominating postseason performances.
OKC and SGA haven’t lost at all during the Western Conference Playoffs, sweeping the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers. The multiple MVP winner has changed the narrative around the Thunder. Including winning over a loyal fanbase that rode with the team before OKC emerged as a contender.
“I really, really, really knew they were real when we sucked for three years and they didn’t go anywhere. That’s when I realized they really love us,” Gilgeous-Alexander said at the podium when he accepted the MVP award.
SGA’s 2026 win did more than get him to join Michael Jordan as multiple winners. He shattered a past Jordan mark by bettering his field goal percentage (53.9%) and points per game (31.1). The six-time NBA champion Jordan held the previous best by a guard who averaged more than 30 points per game.
SGA also becomes the Thunder’s first-ever consecutive MVP winner.
