Sean Dyche sacked by Nottingham Forest as owner Evangelos Marinakis confirms THIRD dismissal of the season

Sean Dyche has been sacked as manager of Nottingham Forest.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis was visibly furious watching on from the stands as Forest were held to a 0-0 draw at home by bottom club Wolves and he’s acted upon those feelings.

A statement read: “Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach.

“We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club and we wish them the best of luck for the future. We will be making no further comment at this time.”

talkSPORT understands five senior players had been called into the chairman’s office after the stalemate.

Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou have already been dismissed this season as the club struggles to replicate their form from last year.

Marinakis is a long-term admirer of Fulham boss Marco Silva, who is yet to commit his future to the west London club beyond the end of the season.

As it stands, Forest sit three points above the bottom three in 17th position.

The Tricky Trees have won only two of their last ten league games.

Against Wolves, Dyche’s men were profligate in front of goal with 35 shots on goal – the most ever by one of his teams in the Premier League.

It was also the most by any side in the top-flight this year, although seven were from full-back Neco Williams.

Meanwhile, just 10 were on target and only four considered big chances by statisticians OPTA.

Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa also produced a stunning reflex double save to deny Igor Jesus and Morato with 13 minutes to go in the game.

talkSPORT previously reported Dyche was under mounting pressure after a 3-1 loss to relegation rivals Leeds.

It was believed Marinakis had expected a much bigger upturn in form after employing the Englishman.

After the draw, Dyche said: “Incredibly frustrated, a dominant performance, but didn’t find the killer moment.

“They set up, fair play, to come and defend it out and see if they could break, but they didn’t really do that, apart from late in the game.

“We contained them very well with the ball and asked so many questions of them, but didn’t find the killer moment.”

Asked about the change in his situation given he was nominated for the Manager of the Month award in January, he added: “Yeah, it’s a new one on me. I said last week, on the same day I was nominated for Manager of the Month, I got told by the same media who were saying I was nominated for Manager of the Month, were saying I should be sacked.

“There lies probably a story of modernism in football, and the way that it’s changing. I’m not defending it, I’m just saying that’s a life thing, life is changing.

“The way that football, the demand is getting higher and higher and higher. We lost one in six, and if we were sitting in mid-table and everyone said, that’s a good run, because we didn’t beat Wolves, everyone said I should go. This is just modern management, this is the way it is now, the demand is changing rapidly.”

And when queried about fan anger at the City Ground during the draw with Wolves, he said: “I’ve got no question of the fans here, no question of them.

“There’s a high expectation of what we could deliver here. We’ve somewhat delivered, in the sense we’ve won four draws and lost one away in Europe, in our run in Europe. In this division we came in here with two points in the relegation zone, we’re now three points out of it, which is not massive, but it’s a change.

“And some really good moments in amongst it. But the demand is high and we haven’t delivered on the total demand, and when it’s like tonight and you dominate like that, it is very frustrating, that’s for sure.”
