Seahawks rookie’s emotional mic’d up moment caught on Hard Knocks after season-ending ankle injury

The Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl defense is already in serious trouble.

With 31 other NFL teams gunning for the Seahawks in 2026, the league’s defending champions need to be at their best throughout a 17-game regular-season campaign.

But with a Super Bowl rematch looming against the New England Patriots on September 9, the Seahawks’ repeat chances are already wavering.

“We had three heartbreakers this week, which is tough,” Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters on Sunday after a 19-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans in the Seahawks’ second preseason game of the year.

First, wide receiver Jake Bobo was lost for the 2026 season due to a right leg injury.

Bobo is a fourth-year pro with 34 career catches for 323 yards and three touchdowns.

The undrafted free agent was injured during a recent joint practice with the Titans.

During Sunday’s game, safety Bud Clark and offensive lineman Mason Richman were forced to leave the game with serious injuries.

Clark was the No. 64 overall pick (second round) of the 2026 NFL Draft out of TCU.

His on-field injury impacted Titans quarterback Cam Ward, who knelt on the field while Seattle trainers attended to Clark.

According to the Seahawks, Clark has a broken ankle and will miss the entirety of his rookie season.

The rookie defender was carted off the field after breaking his ankle.

The painful moment was shown on this week’s episode of Hard Knocks.

Clark immediately screamed out, “My sh** just broke!”, but kept a positive attitude on the sidelines while dealing with intense pain.

“Yeah, we gravy, we gravy,” Clark told the Seattle trainers.

Clark later said to Macdonald, “Hell yeah, coach, we gravy. It hurts like a motherf*****, though.”

“You’re hurting, I know. You’re a tough son of a b***h, though. We got you, Bud,” a coach says.

Clark then had a phone call with his fiancee and son where he added: “They snap, crackle, popped my a**.”

Richman also suffered a major, long-term injury on Sunday.

“Petition the league to cancel the last preseason game,” one fan posted at the time.

“Are we gonna go through an injury (Super Bowl) slump because d***,” a second fan wrote.

The Seahawks went 14-3 last year and finished the regular season on a seven-game winning streak.

The NFC West champs then powered through the playoffs, overcoming the division rival Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers, then blowing out the Patriots in Super Bowl LX.

But Seattle now faces serious depth-chart issues, while also dealing the blowback of considering signing defensive back Terrion Arnold, who is facing eight felony charges and could be placed on the NFL’s Commissioner’s Exempt List.

The Seahawks entered training camp knowing that they had to replace Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III, who joined Patrick Mahomes‘ Kansas City Chiefs in free agency.

Macdonald will again be able to rely on veteran QB Sam Darnold in 2026, while London-born Aden Durde will coach a defense that could still rank among the league’s best.

“You’ve got to look at still building your process,” Durde exclusively told talkSPORT in July, while discussing the pressure that Seattle will face in 2026 to repeat.

“Mike (Macdonald) talks ‘run it forward’ and we’re running  our process forwards, and we just keep honing that and keep driving towards the little, tiny things and chasing the edges we need to chase to keep perfecting. And we probably never will perfect it, but we just keep driving towards this goal.”
