RXTR Pro Coach Football Rebounder review: I tried this smart football training tool, here’s what I thought
Without a training partner, it can be hard for footballers to get the most out of their individual sessions.
The RXTR Pro Coach Rebounder is a smart coaching system you can use on your own to work on each key part of your game.

RXTR Pro Coach Football Rebounder, £119.99
An all-in-one tool, the RXTR Pro Coach Rebounder uses revolutionary technology to provide focused individual training and it can adapt to whatever space you have available.
Complete with a rebound board, reaction light, colour markers and over 20 pre-programmed tests and drills, this complete system allows players to hone core football skills such as passing, control and scanning.
A practical design also means the RXTR Pro Coach Rebounder is completely portable, so any garden, driveway or training ground can be turned into a proper coaching set‑up.
Keen to get some extra reps away from team training, I jumped at the chance to test it out for a review to see if it could boost my game.
How I tested
The RXTR Pro Coach Rebounder is considered the professional-grade rebounder among the rebounders offered by sports equipment manufacturer Quickplay, so I was excited to put it to the test.
I put it through its paces over two separate individual training sessions on a grass pitch.
There were two key factors I considered when testing to determine whether or not it offered value for money.
Firstly, and most importantly, could this tool perform the same role as a training partner in a session?
Even when training on my own, I aim to develop key skills such as passing, control and awareness, so I hoped the rebounder would provide a similar quality of pass and commands that a partner would.
And secondly, could the Pro Coach Rebounder replicate the in-game situations I face on the pitch?

RXTR Pro Coach Football Rebounder, £119.99
As a midfielder, first touch and awareness are essential to my game, but can be difficult to work on when training alone.
Developing these skills in an individual session would usually involve me finding a wall to pass the ball against or simply booting the ball in the air and trying to control it.
But without a training partner, there is no real substitute for the verbal or visual prompts to develop awareness.
So, when I was offered the chance to test out the RXTR Pro Coach Rebounder, I was keen to see if it could help me to get more out of my individual sessions.
First impressions and set-up
This smart system arrives with a rebounder, four colour markers and an LED reaction light, which has built-in sensors and drills.
Also in the package was an instruction book outlining the various drills and a USB-C charging cable for the reaction light.
The beauty of this training tool is that the smart system’s built-in sensors track ball impact, meaning that no phone is needed to use it.
After quickly getting to grips with accessing the pre-programmed drills via the reaction light, I followed the instructions to fill the rebound board with water (sand can also be used).
Advised to fill the board up to at least half of its capacity, for my first session, I opted to only fill it halfway.
However, in my first session, I found that while the board was rather sturdy, heavier passes caused it to move backwards slightly.
I made sure to fill it up more when using it a second time, and found this was no longer an issue with the board feeling more stable.
Set-up complete, how did the RXTR Pro Coach Rebounder perform in a training session?
Performance
After taking the equipment to my local grass pitch, I first decided to work on some one-touch passing against the rebound board.
I was instantly impressed with how it bounced the ball back at pace, replicating the same conditions I would play under on the pitch.

Having gained a feel for the equipment, I then set a timer and tested out the built-in sensors and scoring system.
With the choice of short, sharp blasts of 10, 20, 30 and 45 seconds, or longer durations of one to three minutes, I first opted for a 20-second hit of a one-touch passing drill.
My goal was to complete as many passes in this time, and the quality of the return pass provided by the rebounder certainly helped.
As mentioned, the board returned the ball at pace, reflecting the speed of my initial pass, so I was able to bounce the ball back and forth at the exact same standard I would with a partner.
At the end of this time, the reaction light then flashed with my score, before showing the words ‘Baller’ on screen to praise my work.
I then adjusted the timer to complete the drill over different lengths of time, allowing me to focus on both sharpness and endurance.
After this, I tried some of the pass-and-move drills on offer, starting by setting up a 10-by-10-yard area for instruction, using each of the four colour markers provided.
Positioning myself in the middle of this box, I put the rebound board around 10 yards away from the area, and set a 20 second timer.
This time, the goal was to find the rebound board as my passing target, then receive the ball and dribble to the cone corresponding to the colour flashing on the reaction light.
I tested several variations of this drill, with the reaction light flashing in different colours and in different orders each time, and found the RXTR Pro Coach Rebounder to be the perfect training partner.
The speed of pass provided by the rebound board made me focus on my first touch, helping me to improve a key skill for a midfielder.
Meanwhile, the commands given by the reaction light encouraged scanning and awareness, as it was important to quickly identify the correct cone to dribble to next, again providing me with position-specific training that will help in games.
The time-sensitivity of each drill encourages speed, forcing players to focus on fast-paced, close control dribbling and turning.
In addition to its game-realistic features, I found the rebound board’s size to be a real bonus.
Roughly speaking, it takes up a similar amount of space as a teammate would, but while a human can move, a rebound board certainly can’t (yet), meaning I had a smaller target to aim for when completing passing drills, encouraging me to focus on accuracy.
As a complete training solution, I was completely won over by the RXTR Pro Coach Rebounder, which allowed me to enjoy a thorough and productive individual training session.
It played the role of a training partner perfectly, allowing me to hone key skills of passing, first touch and scanning whilst working alone.
