Royal Ascot betting tips: Selections for Friday 19 June at Ascot

Friday’s Royal Ascot card is set to provide some enthralling action once again and we have no fewer than two Group 1s to look forward to. There are seven races in total and you won’t want to miss a second of it!

Our feature race is the Group 1 Coronation Stakes and the mile event provides the three-year-old fillies with the opportunity to earn their status as the queen of the division.

Liam Bramall has selected three of his strongest fancies across the day and among them is an Aidan O’Brien-trained filly in the opening race who was very impressive when winning her maiden last time out. There should be plenty more to come.

Royal Ascot betting tips – Friday

  • 15:05 Ascot – Charles Darwin @ 12/1
  • 17:35 Ascot – Causeway @ 15/8

14:30 Ascot – Sun Goddess @ 11/10

It’s no real surprise that Aidan O’Brien has dominated the juvenile races at Royal Ascot in the last couple of years and victories in both the Coventry Stakes and the Queen Mary definitely bode well for a big run from SUN GODDESS in this race.

There’s some group race form in her pedigree and the daughter of Sioux Nation made her debut in a 5f novice at Naas last month. She was only a head away from winner and stablemate Carry The Flag, who is well fancied for the Norfolk Stakes on Saturday.

She took a big step forward when upped to 6f at the Curragh next time and dominated her rivals to score by five lengths. Further progress seems very likely and the recent form of the yard’s juvenile runners is certainly looking ominous for the opposition.

15:05 Ascot – Charles Darwin @ 12/1

CHARLES DARWIN is a bit of a forgotten horse but it would be dangerous to overlook the son of No Nay Never. Admittedly he was below-par when last of eight in a Group 3 at Naas last time out but that run is obviously not a true reflection of his ability.

Impressive in the early stages of his two-year-old campaign, he won a maiden over 6f by a wide margin and was equally impressive over the minimum trip next time. He was in a league of his own when winning the Norfolk Stakes here last year and that’s hard to ignore.

We then didn’t see him for the rest of the season but he returned with victory in a Listed contest at Navan. There were excuses for his latest effort, as Ryan Moore said he briefly lost his action, and a much improved performance should be on the cards.

17:35 Ascot – Causeway @ 15/8

Aidan O’Brien has been very patient with the promising three-year-old CAUSEWAY with the colt only making two starts as a two-year-old. He finished fourth behind Derby winner Christmas Day on debut and took a step forward to get off the mark comfortably next time out.

The yard’s horses needed their first runs badly in March and April so it is particularly noteworthy that he managed to win the Madrid Handicap on seasonal debut. A comfortable two-length second then followed when upped to Listed level over a mile at the Curragh.

Causeway managed to land the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes on his first attempt over 1m2f and the well bred son of Wootton Bassett seems likely to improve again.
