Romania vs Wales predictions
Wales looked to be on their way to a defeat by Ghana on Tuesday night, but a last-gasp goal earned them a draw at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Wales were the better team in the first half of that friendly, but they were unable to find a way past Lawrence Ati Zigi in the Ghana goal.
When the opening goal came midway through the second period, it went Ghana’s way. The Black Stars broke forward on the counter-attack and Ernest Nuamah forced Karl Darlow to make a save, but Caleb Yirenkyi was on hand to tuck home the rebound.
That was harsh on Wales and it looked like being one of those days where they would be unable to turn their dominance of possession and control of the game into a goal.
In fact, the hosts pulled level in second-half stoppage time, Lewis Koumas heading the ball into the net from a Neco Williams cross. It was the least Wales deserved after a promising performance.
“I thought it got too easy for us,” Craig Bellamy said afterwards. “We were completely controlling the tempo, but by everyone wanting a touch we lost that aggressiveness in our runs.
“We needed to get that back. There were some really positive moments though, and I have to be happy with them.”
Romania were also involved in a 1-1 draw last time out, as they shared the spoils with Georgia in Tbilisi.
Like Wales, Romania will not be involved at World Cup 2026. They finished third in their qualification group, behind Austria and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Romania got a second bite at the cherry via the play-offs, but they were beaten 1-0 by Turkey in the semi-finals to extend their wait for a first World Cup appearance since 1998.
Romania vs Wales betting tips
Wales return to action for a second June friendly, this time against Romania in Bucharest.
Honours even again?
Romania and Wales both drew on Tuesday and the same outcome is a distinct possibility when they go head-to-head this weekend. As is often the case in betting markets, the draw looks overpriced.
This is not a straightforward match to predict given both Gheorghe Hagi and Bellamy will probably shuffle their packs.
Neither manager is likely to rotate all 11 players, though, and while there is nothing riding on the outcome of the match, Romania and Wales will each be keen to secure a victory in their final match of the 2025/26 season.
We envisage the two teams cancelling each other out. Wales may have more of the ball, but that will not be enough to bring them a win.

Festival of goals unlikely
Wales have now drawn three games in a row and each has finished 1-1. There was a 7-1 thrashing of North Macedonia before that, but four of the Dragons’ last five matches have contained under 2.5 goals.
Romania’s record is similar. Three of their last four outings have featured a maximum of two goals.
The exception was a 7-1 thrashing of San Marino, which bears little relevance to Saturday’s game against Wales given the weakness of the European minnows.
A tight match is on the cards, with goals likely to be at a premium at Stadionul Steaua in Bucharest.

Munteanu to make mark
When Louis Munteanu moved to Fiorentina as a 17-year-old in 2020, there was talk of him being the next great hope of Romanian football.
His career has not entirely gone to plan since then, but he has made a positive start to his time at DC United, whom he joined in January.
Munteanu also has a fine record for his country, having found the back of the net three times in five appearances to date.
That is a small sample size, but it shows that Munteanu has the ability to influence matches at international level.
