Red Sox dealt troubling starting pitching injury update amid poor start

The Boston Red Sox have had to wait patiently while starting pitcher Kutter Crawford has been on the mend from an injury. It now appears that Crawford is facing yet another setback.

“Kutter Crawford said he felt tightness after his last outing and the MRI showed inflammation in his flexor/elbow but no structural damage. He’s shut down but hopes to he can start throwing again soon,” The Athletic reported on X, formerly Twitter.

This is tough news for Boston. It has been quite some time since the club was able to use Crawford on the mound.

“Crawford hasn’t pitched at the major-league level since 2024 because of injury,” CBS Sports reported.

In his career, the Red Sox pitcher has 18 regular season wins in MLB. He started 33 games during the 2024 season, where he posted a 4.36 ERA for Boston.

Crawford has been working this season on a rehab assignment for Boston. He has been pitching for Boston’s Triple-A club, the Worcester Red Sox.

With Worcester, the hurler has posted a 15.00 ERA in just one start this year. He allowed five earned runs in his one outing, lasting just three innings.

“I saw him yesterday, too. It seems like he’s in an OK place mentally. It’s just a matter of making sure everything’s good,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said recently after meeting with Crawford, per Mass Live.

Crawford has played his entire MLB career with Boston. He has a career 4.56 ERA. He has logged 69 starts, and pitched close to 400 innings with the team in the regular season.

Boston plays on Tuesday against the New York Yankees. The Red Sox hold a 9-13 record on the season.
