The Palampur-born cricketer Paras Dogra, currently leading Jammu and Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, has etched his name into the record books by becoming only the second cricketer after Wasim Jaffer to cross the 10,000-run mark in the tournament’s 92-year history. The landmark moment came during the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Bengal on February 16 at Kalyani.

Batting second, J&K were in early trouble at 13/2 when Dogra walked in at No. 4. With Shubham Pundir departing soon after, Dogra found support in Abdul Samad, and the pair stitched together a crucial 50-run partnership to steady the innings. Dogra reached the historic milestone with the 11th run of his knock, achieving the feat in his 147th Ranji Trophy appearance. Only Jaffer has previously crossed the 10,000-run barrier and remains the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 12,038 runs.

The right-handed batter began his first-class career with Himachal Pradesh in 2001, representing the side in 95 Ranji Trophy matches and amassing over 6,418 runs, including 19 centuries and 24 half-centuries. In 2018, he moved to Puducherry, where he became the team’s first-ever Ranji Trophy centurion and scored 11 centuries across five seasons. Ahead of the 2024-25 season, he shifted to Jammu & Kashmir and took over the captaincy.

Approaching the 500-run mark this season, Dogra has continued to lead from the front. He is currently J&K’s second-highest run-scorer and has played a pivotal role in guiding the side to their maiden Ranji Trophy semi-final. Among active players, Dogra now holds the record for the most Ranji Trophy centuries (33), trailing only Jaffer’s all-time tally of 40. Featuring in his 147th match, he also became the second-most capped player in tournament history, behind Jaffer’s 156 appearances.

He is renowned for converting starts into massive scores and has registered nine double centuries in the Ranji Trophy, the joint-highest in the competition’s history, alongside former Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara.
