Premier League Darts – Week 6 prediction

Luke Littler appears to be back to his brilliant best ahead of this week’s meet in Nottingham having ended his dire run of just one win in five matches from the opening four weeks of the Premier League campaign, reaching his first final of the campaign and triumphing in it with a 6-4 win over table topping Jonny Clayton.

The night victory saw the two-time reigning world champion and world number one shoot up from seventh to third in the Premier League table, and was followed up with the successful defence of his UK open over the weekend, defeating James Wade in Sunday’s final.

Thursday night sees the 19-year-old come up against Gerwyn Price in the standout quarter final of the night as second plays third in a rematch of last week’s semi final in Cardiff, in which Littler averaged 111 en route to victory to knockout the Welshman.

The winner of that blockbuster fourth and final quarter final will take on either defending champion Luke Humphries or Premier League rookie Gian van Veen.

Humphries is in the peculiar position of boasting the highest average out of anyone in the Premier League so far but has only won three of his eight matches across the campaign so far and is yet to reach a nightly final, and currently sits sixth in the standings.

In contrast, the Dutch youngster has made light work of getting to finals, having reached three of the five so far, but is yet to win himself a nightly trophy, a record the reigning European champion will be aiming to put right in Nottingham on Thursday.

On the other side of the draw, the action begins a battle between the two players occupying the bottom two spots in the standings, as Josh Rock, yet to win a match in competition all year, takes on Stephen Bunting, who has four quarter final exits in five weeks so far, but also has a nightly win to his name.

The winner of that clash will meet the winner of Jonny Clayton, currently five points clear at the top of the table on his return to the Premier League after a two year absence, up against the seven-time champion Michael van Gerwen, who has reached two finals so far this year, winning one, but hasn’t made a semi final since week two.

Littler seems to have finally found his form after a slow start to the campaign which doesn’t bode well for his competitors.

There are no easy games in the Premier League but Clayton will be looking at his half the draw confident of reaching the final, starting out against an out of form van Gerwen before playing the winner of the battle of the bottom two in the last four.

Premier League Darts – Week 6 betting tips

Littler has landed

Littler appears to have finally found his groove as he stormed to victory in Cardiff last week in the Premier League before becoming the first person in 10 years to win back to back UK Open titles on Sunday night.

His weekend victory in Minehead means the teenager has now won each of the last five ranked televised events, and currently holds seven of the eight titles available – the European Championship, currently held by van Veen, is the only one he’s missing.

Jonny be good

Clayton has made a barnstorming start to his return to the Premier League after two years out, currently boasting a five point lead at the top of the table as the only player to have won all four of his quarter finals.

His route to the final on Thursday looks a favourable win, being drawn against an out of from van Gerwen who hasn’t reached a semi final since week two, and should ‘the Ferret’ progress through that, he’ll meet the winner of the battle between the table’s bottom two for a place in the final.
