Premier League Darts – Week 3 prediction

Last week’s Premier League action saw Gerwyn Price secure his first nightly win in the tournament since Week 12 of last season’s edition.

The Welshman was made to work for his place in the final, winning 6-5 in each of his quarter final and semi final against Gian van Veen and Jonny Clayton respectively before getting the better of Week 1 champion Michael van Gerwen 6-3 in the final, in which he averaged 104.

The former world champion will take on Clayton once again this week in an all Welsh quarter final, the final one of the night as the tour heads to Glasgow.

Seven-time Premier League champion Michael van Gerwen has reached both finals of this year’s competition, winning one, and Thursday night will see him take on the two-time reigning world champion and world number one Luke Littler in the third quarter final of the night.

Littler has disappointed so far in the Premier League this season by his sky high standards, winning only one of his three matches so far, and will be eager for revenge against the Mighty Mike after being beaten in last week’s semi final by the Dutchman.

Thursday’s opening match will see Stephen Bunting, currently winless from the first two weeks of this year’s campaign, take on the rookie Gian van Veen, runner up in this year’s World Championship and winner, and also reached the final of his first night of Premier League Darts a fortnight ago, but couldn’t get through his quarter final in Belgium last time out.

The winner of the opening tie will take on the winner of reigning Premier League champion Luke Humphries’ match with the other rookie, Josh Rock, the latter yet to have got off the mark with a victory in his debut campaign so far.

Humphries will be disappointed with his performances so far this season, winning only one of his three matches so far, but the world number two does have the highest average out of everyone across the opening two weeks so will still consider himself in good nick.

It’s difficult to look past a final between Littler and Humphries, the top two in the world, with both feeling they have a point to prove after disappointing in the opening fortnight of the campaign, both with just one win from their three matches so far.

Humphries is averaging 102, more than anyone else, across the opening two weeks of the Premier League, with his checkout percentage letting him down, something he’ll no doubt have been practicing in the last week, as shown by his win the Players Championship on Tuesday.

Premier League Darts – Week 3 betting tips

Humphries has the hump

Despite winning just one of his three matches so far in the current Premier League campaign, Luke Humphries boasts the highest average across the opening fortnight of the campaign, but holds the second worst checkout percentage.

The reigning Premier League champion is averaging 102 so far but is checking out at just 30%, and will have been working hard in his doubles in the week after it costing him so far.

The world number has been working on his homework over the week though, as shown in his victory in the Players Championship on Tuesday afternoon this week.

Jonny wins Welsh bragging rights

Clayton’s record against Price leaves a lot to be desired but will be eager for revenge against his Welsh compatriot on Thursday after being beaten in a deciding leg in their semi final in Antwerp last week.

Clayton is the only other player, other the Humphries, to be averaging over 100 throughout the campaign, and also boasts the best checkout percentage so will back himself to reach a third consecutive semi final on Thursday at Price’s expense.
