Police rush to England media centre after scary security breach

Police were called to do a check at the England media centre after a man armed with a wrench breached security.

The bizarre incident was revealed by journalist Henry Winter on X.

Winter was about to do a piece for Sky from the media centre in Kansas City when the individual, who was shouting, sat next to him.

But once police sirens were heard on the road outside – responding to another call – the man quickly fled the area.

Local police then returned to the media centre to assess the situation.

Winter confirmed no England players were in the building at the time of the man’s security breach.

The episode at the media centre is the latest chaotic incident to occur near England’s training base for the World Cup, Swope Soccer Village.

Chaos in Kansas

In June, local police launched a manhunt for a 22-year-old male who allegedly shot one person dead and injured four others in a string of shootings across Kansas City.

One of the alleged shootings took place an estimated 15-minute drive from Swope Soccer Village.

Luckily for England’s players and staff, they were not in Kansas City when the alleged shootings took place.

Instead, the Three Lions were in the middle of their World Cup opener against Croatia in Houston, which they won 4-2.

That wasn’t the only shooting near Swope Soccer Village in June.

Just weeks earlier, nine people received treatment for non-life threatening injuries following an incident on Troost Avenue at 4am.

The road is located only a ten-minute drive from England’s World Cup base.

Once again, the Three Lions stars were well away from danger as they were in Florida to play New Zealand in a friendly.

However, England weren’t so lucky in the lead-up to their first training session as they had numerous pieces of equipment stolen.

Nine pairs of football boots, goalkeeper gloves, a World Cup ball, multiple pairs of shirts and shorts, stuffed animals, electronic equipment and numerous signed England shirts had all been pinched by two men, who were later charged.

It was estimated the total value of the stolen gear was estimated to be $18,000 (£13,647).
