Pistons’ Cade Cunningham singlehandedly outscored Magic in the 2nd half of Game 6

It looked like the Detroit Pistons were dead men walking heading into the second half of Game 6 in their first-round series against the Orlando Magic. Down 3-2 in the series, which means that a loss on Friday sees the Eastern Conference’s top-seeded team bow out to the eighth-seeded Magic, it seemed as though the Pistons were done, as they faced a 22-point deficit, 60-38, heading into the halftime interval.

However, the Pistons came out of the locker room with the level of desperation that was necessary for a team whose season was hanging in the balance. They buckled down on the defensive end and played at a level reminiscent of their regular-season selves, storming back from that aforementioned halftime deficit to take a 93-79 victory — sending the series to a decisive Game 7 on Sunday night back at home.

Cade Cunningham was absolutely phenomenal in the Pistons’ comeback effort that saw them outscore the Magic 55-19 in the second half. In fact, Cunningham scored more points than the entire Magic team in the second half, recording 24 points on his own, as pointed out by the official ClutchPoints account on X (formerly Twitter).

Cunningham was an absolute force in the second half, as the Pistons capitalized on the momentum they gathered from chipping away at the Magic’s lead in the third quarter. He took it upon himself to bring Detroit back, although a lot of credit must go to their defense for suffocating the Magic and taking them out of their rhythm entirely.

The fourth quarter was an abject nightmare for the Magic; they made just one of their 20 field-goal attempts during the quarter and they could not buy a bucket. In fact, the Pistons did not let them get anywhere near the basket for stretches, and Cunningham took advantage by making timely buckets on the other end.
