Phillies’ Kyle Schwarber isn’t concerned with making franchise history

If there’s one stat that encapsulates Kyle Schwarber perfectly, it’s home runs. The Philadelphia Phillies star hitter is one of the most prolific long ball hitters in the league. He’s almost always near the top of the home run leaderboard every season. Over the last five games, though, Schwarber has upped his game to a different level.

In the Phillies’ win over the Boston Red Sox, Schwarber hit a solo home run early in the game. Hitting a home run is incredible, but that wasn’t the notable part of the feat. With that home run, Schwarber has now hit a home run in each of his last five games. That ties a record previously held by multiple players, including Trea Turner, Chase Utley, Odúbel Herrera, Rhys Hoskins, Bobby Abreu, Mike Schmidt, and Dick Allen.

How did Schwarber react to this achievement? While the Phillies star is honored to be part of this group, the star emphasized that his main goal is to win games for his team.

“I haven’t really thought about it, didn’t really know that was a thing,” Schwarber told reporters. “But like I always say, I think it’ll be cooler when I get to all this, sit back, have a beer whenever I’m retired, and look at all the cool things that you got to do throughout your career. But I wanna focus on our guys and keep trying to find a way to win baseball games.”

Schwarber overtook New York Yankees star and reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge for most home runs in the entire MLB with 17 home runs. The Phillies star has been one of the best home run hitters in the league, hitting 35+ home runs in his last four seasons. His worst campaign was in 2024, when he hit “just” 38 home runs. He followed up that year by leading the National League in home runs with 56.

The Phillies are currently struggling to stay afloat. The win over the Red Sox put their record at 20-22 on the season. This team is clearly much better than their record suggests. It makes sense, then, that Schwarber isn’t worried about a franchise record, but is more focused on winning games.
