Paul Skenes, Jacob deGrom among most difficult pitchers Braves’ Ozzie Albies has faced
The Atlanta Braves have enjoyed a hot first third of the 2026 MLB season, currently sitting in first place in the MLB with a record of 36-18. The Braves have seen resurgent hitting seasons from several players this season, including fan favorite Ozzie Albies.
Still, even the best hitters sometimes struggle against the game’s elite pitchers, and recently, Albies broke down the five pitchers he’s had to face thus far in his career.
“In my career, I’d say number one, Jacob DeGrom. Second, in the Seattle series, I faced (Jose) Ferrer, lefty, he’s pretty nasty. (Edward) Cabrera with the Cubs too, he’s pretty nasty… number four, I’ll go with Paul Skenes. It’s hard when you have a splitter and change-up at 95. He’s pretty nasty. Last one, I’ll say Zack Wheeler,” said Albies, per B/R Walk-Off on X, formerly Twitter.
Indeed, those pitchers have all given many players problems over the course of their careers.
Still, Albies has found a way to return to form for the most part this year after a down year in 2025 that had some fans wondering if the Braves might try to move off him. Albies has played a critical role in many deep playoff runs for the Braves, including their 2021 World Series championship, and is hoping to help guide the team to another one this year.
Atlanta has done an excellent job of holding down the fort in the pitching department despite a plethora of injuries, and the team is hoping that players like Austin Riley and Ronald Acuna Jr. will be able to recapture their former hitting prowess as the season continues.
The Braves will next take the field on Tuesday evening for a game against the Boston Red Sox.
