Padres’ Mason Miller ties franchise record set in 2006 after taming Rockies
When the ninth inning rolls around, the San Diego Padres are expecting Mason Miller to be a lights out option. On Thursday, he once again proved why the Padres have so much trust in him.
Miller earned his ninth save of the season, closing out a 10-8 victory over the Colorado Rockies. In the process, he tied the Padres franchise record for longest scoreless streak, via MLB’s X, formerly Twitter page.

Through his first 12 games in 2026, Miller has yet to allow a run while giving up just three hits and two walks while striking out 27. The Padres couldn’t ask for much more from their ninth inning star. If he continues pitching at this level, he will remain one of the scariest closer in the league for the foreseeable future.
That was the Padres hopes and plans when they acquired the relief pitcher in a trade with the Athletics. San Diego was willing to give up a package based around top prospect Leo De Vries. He now ranks as the fourth-best prospect in all of baseball, via MLB Pipeline.
For Miller though, the Padres felt it was more than worth it. Heading into Sunday’s game, he had pitched to a 0.52 ERA and a 72/12 K/BB ratio over his 33 games with the Padres. Over Miller’s 136 games total of MLB action, he has posted a 2.63 ERA and a 273/67 K/BB ratio.
If the Padres are in a save situation come ninth inning, you know Miller’s music is going to hit. To start out the 2026 season, that has been an impossible task for any batter.
