Otherworldly Frederik Andersen stat shows why Hurricanes won East Final
For the first time since 2006, the Carolina Hurricanes have advanced to the Stanley Cup Final, completing the five-game series victory over the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Final on Friday evening with a convincing 6-1 victory at Lenovo Center.
And once again, as he’s done throughout the playoffs, the Hurricanes have goaltender Frederik Andersen to thank in large part. Over the course of the final two games of the series, Andersen allowed only two goals against, and a recent stat revealed that showed just how dominant his play in the postseason has been for Carolina.
So far in the postseason, Andersen has been victimized only 20 times in 13 games, as the Hurricanes have gone 12-1. For reference, Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick allowed only 38 goals in 20 postseason games in 2012, while Hall of Fame New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur allowed only 40 total goals in 24 postseason games during their 2003 run to the Stanley Cup.
Additionally, Colorado Avalanche goaltender Patrick Roy allowed only 41 goals in 22 postseason games as he helped lead the club to the 1996 Stanley Cup.
Frederik Andersen has allowed 20 goals in 13 playoff games.
Twenty.
He’s played every minute in #SoundTheSiren 12-1 run – and has a shot to shatter modern records.
Fewest GA:
2012 #LAKings Quick 38 GA (20 GP)
2003 #njdevils Brodeur 40 GA (24)
1996 #GoAvsGo Roy 41 GA (22)— Frank Seravalli (@frank_seravalli) May 30, 2026
Andersen completed an 18-save shutout of the Canadiens in Carolina’s 4-0 win at Bell Centre in Game 4 earlier this week, and put an exclamation point on the series on Friday evening, making 23 saves on the 24 shots that he faced, only losing what would have been his second straight shutout bid when Cole Caufield beat him just over the midway point of the third period with the score already well out of hand.
Andersen and the Hurricanes will face the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Final, which will officially begin on Tuesday.
