Oregon beats out Texas, Georgia for 4-star safety recruit
Oregon football stretched its impressive recruiting blitz into NFL Draft weekend. First the Ducks landed five-star quarterback Will Mencl. Now Dan Lanning and his coaching staff just beat Texas and Georgia for four-star safety Semaj Stanford.
The native of Broken Arrow, OK., revealed his decision to join the Big Ten power via Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals. He also said “SCO DUCKS” in his message.
Stanford to Oregon started trending up before Thursday. The 5-foot-10 safety told Duck Territory 247 that his visit to Eugene “exceeded” his expectations. He also took a liking to defensive coordinator Chris Hampton.
“It means a lot to have the DB coach as the coordinator. I know I’m going to be put in the right position,” Stanford told 247. “And then Coach Lanning is a defensive guy. Those two guys, that means a lot.”
Stanford also is a four-star per 247Sports, but is the nation’s No. 3 overall safety. Gabe Brooks of 247Sports raved about his game.
“Elite pure football player with three-phase impact and high-level production,” Brooks began. “Plays physical with wiry strength above listed size. Exhibits ball skills on both sides of the ball.”
Brooks adds how Stanford executes sudden acceleration and high-level awareness. Stanford additionally brings a sprinter background via the track.
Oregon is making the early case for No. 1 College Football Recruiting class for 2027. Mencl and Stanford aren’t the only high-profile verbal commitments here. Oregon landed the state’s No. 1 prospect Josiah Molden of West Linn on April 12. The Ducks also won over fellow four-stars Zane Rowe (defensive lineman) and Ai’King Hall (defensive back).
