OJ Simpson glove jokes are flying after Aaron Rai rocked 2 gloves to PGA Championship victory
Aaron Rai won his first major championship at the PGA Championship on Sunday. The Englishman became the first player from his country to win the tournament since 1919, and did so with a unique aesthetic. Rai uses iron covers and wears gloves on both of his hands, both picadillies that have led to online chatter. The two black gloves Rai wore to victory led to a lot of jokes about OJ Simpson.

It seems like the PGA Tour’s official social media page got its references confused here. The famous line from the Simpson trial is, “If the glove don’t fit, you must acquit.” But Rai’s gloves do fit, as pointed out in the caption? So he’s guilty? Guilty of snatching a major championship from some titans of the game, but not much else.

Everyone is trying anything to get better at golf. And if the double glove method works for Rai, then someone you run into at the course this summer will be trying it. The image is from the trial against Simpson, accusing him of murdering his wife, Nicole, and a waiter, Ron Goldman. The gloves were found at the crime scene, but did not fit him, potentially due to the blood shrinking the leather. Simpson was acquitted of all charges.
Not everyone went right to Simpson when joking about Rai’s two gloves. According to Normal Sport’s Kyle Porter, CBS’s Jim Nantz went with the Philadelphia angle. “Just like Rocky, Aaron Rai wears two gloves.”
Rai beat Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley by three shots on Sunday, pulling away from a crowded field with a great back nine. Rory McIlroy, Cam Smith, and Justin Thomas are just some of the names he left in the dust with two incredible birdies on 13 and 17.
