Oilers rumors: There could be a new No. 1 team on Darnell Nurse’s trade list

The previous report about the Darnell Nurse trade list indicated that the Pittsburgh Penguins were his top destination. Now, a new report indicates he may have a new preferred destination, according to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos.

“With a no-move clause, Nurse is in control of his destiny for one more year before his contract goes to a 10-team list. I’m hearing his preference right now is Philadelphia, where he has family ties to his quarterback uncle, Donovan McNabb. However, the rival Pittsburgh Penguins may also be a factor here. Kyle Dubas has his eye on Nurse and wants to add muscle to the back end,” Kypreos wrote.

The Flyers must make a good trade offer if they wish to pursue Nurse. Moreover, they must use their roster pieces and draft capital to potentially make it happen. After the Oilers hired Mike Babcock as their new coach, there will be some urgency on their end to find a trade partner who will take Nurse.

Nurse netted seven goals and 24 total points over 82 games for the Oilers this past season. Prior to that, he had five goals and 33 points in 76 games. The one thing that might hold a trade back is the $9.25 million AAV that Nurse commands this coming season. But that has not completely halted interest.

Nurse has allegedly expressed interest in Philadelphia, and it could become a fresh start for the defenseman. With free agency around the corner, these talks could intensify, especially as the Oilers look to return to contention.  The Oilers will likely listen to all offers before making a decision on Nurse and his future.
