‘Not admitted that to anyone’ – Rob Cross makes surprise Beau Greaves reveal as star tipped for ‘bright future’

Cross cruised through in straight sets, winning 3-0 at the Alexandra Palace.

He was far from his best, averaging around 90, but he ended the contest in style with a 170 checkout that sent fans wild.

It has been a tough year for Cross on the oche, but he will hope the Ally Pally can get the best out of him.

And though it wasn’t the best performance, it didn’t really matter because he is into the second round and avoided becoming an early casualty.

Cross now looks forward to a clash against Ian White, which their match scheduled for December 21.

Victory over White would mean Cross remains in the mix after the Christmas break, a scenario Greaves herself hopes to find herself in.

Greaves, who is sponsored by talkSPORT for the World Darts Championship, faces a tricky first round contest against Daryl Gurney.

And Cross revealed his admiration for Greaves in an interview with talkSPORT.

Cross was asked what it was like having to watch the Grand Slam of Darts from home after missing out.

He said: “I’ll tell you who I did watch, who I was interested in was Beau Greaves, I’ve probably not admitted that to anyone.

“I’m not a big darts watcher, my boy is getting into it, he’s 14 now. He loves the game, so he loves watching it, he knows all the results and never gets away from it.

“I can never get away from it for him…but I really wanted to watch Beau and I thought she held herself in good stead, she was great.

“I think a little bit of inexperience on the big stage against the big boys is what cost her, as she had a couple of match darts in both games.

“I think she’s incredible. She’s got such a bright future. I don’t think I’ve spoken about that with any other person in the game.

“But if you look at it, darts in general is strong, so she’s going to be great.”

In the Grand Slam of Darts, Greaves narrowly lost to Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen in last-leg deciders.

But she has defeated Luke Littler this year and claimed the PDC World Youth Darts Championship and has a Tour Card spot for next year.

And all of this is achieved with just 30 minutes of practice a day.

She revealed this in an exclusive interview with Drive on talkSPORT why she does this.

She said: “Yeah around (30 minutes).

“The thing is that when I was younger I practiced a lot, but as I got older, it kind of wore off a little bit.

“I just like to keep my arm loose, but I’ve been doing it quite a long time so don’t be too hard on yourself.”

This attitude has taken her very far already, and many are tipping Greaves to have a fantastic World Championships.

And it’s great to see that support from fellow professionals such as Cross.
