Next West Brom manager odds: Baggies legend favourite to replace sacked Ramsay

West Brom are in the hunt for a new manager once again following the sacking of Eric Ramsay on Tuesday night after just nine matches in charge.

Former Baggies midfielder James Morrison is currently priced as the 5/4 to favourite to be announced as Ramsay’s successor, with several former Premier League managers also in the running according to talkSPORT BET.

Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw at home against fellow relegation candidates Charlton was the final nail in the coffin for Ramsay as West Brom manager, who failed to win any of his nine matches in charge of the Baggies, scoring just five goals across his tenure and conceding 18.

The 34-year-old only joined the West Midlands side last month, joining from MLS side Minnesota following previous spells working as Wales assistant manager and as a coach at Manchester United under the likes of Erik ten Hag and Ralf Rangnick.

The Welshman took over a West Brom team sat 18th in the Championship table in mid-January, seven points clear of the relegation zone but Tuesday night’s result has left them just one point and one place outside the bottom three, benefitted hugely by Leicester’s six-point deduction which saw them drop below the Baggies.

The West Brom hierarchy are now on the hunt for a third permanent manager this season as they desperately try and improve a situation which could feasibly see the club relegated to League One, which would see the club playing third tier football next season for the first time since 1993.

James Morrison has emerged as the front runner to be given the task of keeping the Baggies in the second tier this season, with the Baggies having announced in their statement of Ramsay’s departure that the current Scotland assistant manager will “oversee first-team affairs on an interim basis”.

The 39-year-old spent 12 years as a player with the club and represented them over 340 times on the pitch and has spent the last six years working in the club’s youth set up as well as as assistant manager, and even took charge of the first team on a couple of occasions last as caretaker boss.

Should he be given the job permanently, it would be Morrison’s first permanent position in charge of a team.

Russell Martin is currently priced as the second favourite to be the next permanent manager in charge at the Hawthorns, with talkSPORT BET him as a 6/1 shout.

The 40-year-old has been out of a job since his sacking from Rangers back in October, but has previously enjoyed success managing in the Championship, impressing in two seasons with Swansea before securing promotion with Southampton via the play-offs just a couple of seasons ago, beating the Baggies in the semi finals on the way.

Slaven Bilic and Sean Dyche are each priced with the third shortest odds at 8/1, the former would be returning to the Hawthorns after spending 18 months at the club previously, which saw the Croat secure the club their most recent promotion to the top flight back in 2020.

The 57-year-old has been out of a job since leaving his role in Saudi Arabia as Al Fateh manager in August 2024.

Dyche, on the other hand, has been out of a job for much less time after being given his marching orders, to the surprise of many, by Nottingham Forest just a fortnight ago.

The 54-year-old hasn’t managed in the Championship since winning the title with Burnley in 2016, so it would a bit of a surprise to see him drop into the a second tier relegation battle after almost a decade in the Premier League.

Other managers being linked with the role are former Manchester United manager Solskjaer, who’s been out of a managerial job since leaving Besiktas in August, current England U21 manager Lee Carsley, current Lincoln manager Michael Skubala and former Southampton boss Will Still.
