New Liverpool star Jeremy Jacquet left screaming in agony after ‘serious’ injury

Jeremy Jacquet has suffered a serious shoulder injury just days after his Liverpool transfer was announced.

The centre-back, who will join the Reds this summer in a £60million deal, was in action for Rennes on Saturday evening against Lens.

Jacquet was substituted in the 69th minute of their 3-1 Ligue defeat and was screaming in pain due to an issue with his shoulder.

Rennes boss Habib Beye confirmed afterwards that the injury to the 20-year-old is serious.

“For Jeremy, it’s his shoulder, and for Abdelhamid [Ait Boudlal, who was also injured], it’s muscular.

“We’ll have time to see, but it’s definitely quite serious for both of them.”

It’s unclear as to how long Jacquet, who made his 19th league start of the season, will be sidelined for.

Liverpool land future star

With Ibrahima Konate seeing his contract expire at the end of the season, there’s little surprise that Liverpool eyed a new defender.

Their Premier League rivals Chelsea were heavily linked with France U21 star Jacquet throughout January.

However, it was Liverpool who managed to complete a deal ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Jacquet will join for an initial fee of £55m with another £5m worth of add-ons.

His signature comes after the Reds’ previous interest in Marc Guehi, who was set to join last summer before his deal collapsed.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot said his first words on Jacquet during his press conference earlier in the week.

“Very pleasing, of course, because first of all he is a very big talent – and maybe even more than ‘only’ a talent, but we speak about talent because of his age, of course.

“Second of all because we weren’t the only one interested in him, so another big compliment for the people that are working every single day so hard to sign players, that we were able to sign such a big talent.

“And [it is] another example of the model we are using at this club: so, young, very talented players, sometimes in the start of their career, sometimes already a little bit a few years into their career, but always players that are young and can improve us and help us for the short, but definitely also for the long term.

“We have signed a lot of them recently and I’ve said many times that the mid to long-term, but even the short-term, future of this club is in a very, very, very good place.”
