Nathan Ake ‘reaches agreement’ for shock transfer away from the Premier League

Fenerbahce have announced that they have an agreement with Nathan Ake as they look to sign him from Manchester City.

Should the deal be confirmed, he leaves the Etihad Stadium after five-and-a-half years under Pep Guardiola, who also exits this summer.

The Dutch star, valued at £8.5million by Man City, started two games at the World Cup with his nation.

He also came off the bench against Japan for the first of his appearances before being trusted against Tunisia and Morocco.

However, the Netherlands were dumped out of the tournament by the latter on penalties in the Round of 32.

It’s a defeat that also saw manager Ronald Koeman resign from his role after three years in charge.

And just days later, Ake may well have figured out where his future lies with just one year left on his current contract.

A statement from the Turkish Super Lig side said: “Our club has reached an agreement with and signed a contract with Nathan Aké, a player for the Dutch National Team.

“Aké, who will be playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, will join our team at the Austrian training camp after his leave of absence.

“This is for the public’s information.”

Man City, though, are yet to confirm the deal on their side.

Ake has played 177 games for the club over the last five-and-a-half years, winning four Premier League titles and the Champions League, as well as two League Cups and two FA Cups.

Premier League sides miss out

talkSPORT understands that, in the January transfer window, Ake rejected a loan move to West Ham.

The Hammers had wanted the 31-year-old to bolster their ranks as they battled against relegation.

He, though, was reluctant to do so and eventually Nuno Espirito Santo‘s team were demoted to the Championship, finishing two points behind rivals Tottenham in the final spot in the zone.

It was also believed Bournemouth, Newcastle and Crystal Palace were monitoring his situation.

A move to the Cherries would have seen him rejoin the club from whom he joined Man City.

Ake spent a few months on loan there from first-team Chelsea before a three-season spell on the South Coast.

He also had short spells with Reading and Watford early in his career.
