NASCAR great Brad Keselowski in ‘absolute shock’ after Kyle Busch’s death

The NASCAR and racing community is in mourning. On Thursday, NASCAR legend Kyle Busch passed away at the age of 41. Busch, who was 41, was known for his aggressive racing style, being called nicknames such as Rowdy, Wild Thing, and the Candy Man.

The aggressive racing style led to feuds on the track, including one with Brad Keselowski. Still, as a great driver, the feud ultimately ended in mutual respect, which was the case with Keselowski. Now, Keselowski has taken to X, formerly Twitter, to give his thoughts on the passing of Busch.

“Absolute shock. Very hard to process. Hug your loved ones,” Keselowski posted.

The two racers are two of the best of all time. Kyle Busch is ninth all-time in wins, with a total of 63 wins at the Cup Series. Meanwhile, Keselowski is 25th with 26 total wins. Both drivers were named in NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023, named in a group of 25 expansion drivers after the Top 50 was named in 1998. Of those 25 drivers, 12 of them are in the NASCAR Hall of Fame, including Kyle’s brother Kurt Busch.

While both are all-time greats, the two were not always friendly, as a feud in 2012 showed. At the Watkins Glen race in 2012, Keselowski passed Marcos Ambrose to challenge Busch on the final lap. Busch slipped on an oil slick on the track. It was the final lap of the race, and the slip caused Busch to crash and Keselowski to have damage. Ambrose would win the race, followed by Kes in second and KFB in seventh.

At the 2012 Irwin Tools Night Race, Busch was leading, but was bumped out of the lead by Keselowski, and ended up finishing sixth. The feus was not done there, as Busch would exact revenge later in the season, intentionally wrecking Keselowski.

While the feud was much publicized at the time, the two have made amends and later became friends. Now, Keselowski mourns the loss of his friend and competitor as he prepares for the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday.
