Mohamed Salah to MLS update as Liverpool exit looms, Robert Lewandowski interest ‘cooling’ and surprise Neymar transfer

The transfer merry-go-round is already in full swing with a host of big names linked with big-money moves to Major League Soccer.

It is expected to be a huge summer of change with star names expected to call time on European football for a new challenge across the Atlantic.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has already been linked with moves to both Inter Miami and LA Galaxy with his Old Trafford exit looming.

Among the other names who could make a blockbuster summer move to the United States is Brazilian star Neymar, who is currently lining up for Santos in his homeland.

The 34-year-old remains the world’s most expensive player owing to his £200m move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

However, injuries have hampered his career in recent years, leaving his place in Brazil’s World Cup squad in jeopardy.

Whether or not the playmaker features at this summer’s showpiece, Neymar is likely to leave his formative club and could follow close friends and former teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in MLS.

However, he is unlikely to head to the sunny surroundings of Miami, instead opting for the state of Ohio.

“Cincinnati and Neymar could develop if he stays fit,” journalist Ben Jacobs told talkSPORT’s new show The S* Word.

“Neymar’s not going to make a decision until after the World Cup although he has to make the World Cup squad first.”

And there was also news on the future of Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski with the striker set to end his four-year association with the Catalan club this summer.

The Polish striker has long been linked with a switch across the pond with Chicago Fire having shown their interest. However, there might be a change of plan on the horizon.

“With Robert Lewandowski my feeling is that the MLS interest has cooled a little bit and he’s more likely now to go to Saudi Arabia. So we have to wait and see how that one develops,” Jacobs added.

There was also an update on the future of Mohamed Salah who has already announced that he will be leaving Liverpool this summer.

The Egyptian has spent nine years at Anfield, firing the club to multiple Premier League successes and a Champions League triumph.

Now 33, Salah is set for a new adventure and Jacobs says the forward has no shortage of suitors.

“Salah is the big one because everyone in MLS has been downplaying it,” Jacobs said.

“I spoke to Sir Mohamed Mansour, the owner of San Diego and he’s British-Egyptian, let’s not forget, and I put it to him only three weeks ago on talkSPORT.

“‘Are you going to sign Salah?’ And he said ‘well, if it was my choice, yes but it’s not really within our model’ which is much more youth-led.

“I’m still told despite that issue that he’s still pushing so Salah and San Diego might be one to watch.

“There’s European interest, there’s Saudi interest and he’s still got to make up his mind as well.

“But you do sense that even before the World Cup, let alone after it, some of these big names to MLS particularly Casemiro to Inter Miami might get done and quite quickly.”
