Mike Tomlin makes a head-turning Aaron Rodgers-Steelers prediction
The Pittsburgh Steelers have looked to Mike Tomlin on the sidelines for the last 19 years. That will not happen during the 2026 season as Tomlin has stepped away from coaching. Like many who leave the profession for a short period or permanently, Tomlin is moving on to television where he will serve as an in-studio analyst for NBC. That network broadcasts Sunday night football, a time slot that is among the most popular for the NFL.
Ex-#Steelers HC Mike Tomlin made his first appearance on NBC tonight to discuss his upcoming role as an analyst on Football Night in America.
Tomlin said at the end that, “gun to my head,” he believes Aaron Rodgers will be the Steelers’ QB next season. pic.twitter.com/znT0mKei4n https://t.co/IR2iJ3jLNh

Speaking before NBC’s Sunday night broadcast of the NBA playoff game between the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers, Tomlin spoke about the change from coaching to broadcasting with host Maria Taylor. He also offered his opinion on the Steelers quarterback situation for the upcoming season.
The former Steelers coach believes that Aaron Rodgers will be back for a second season in Pittsburgh. “Man if you got a gun to my head, I think it will be AR — Aaron,” Tomlin said. “Being around Aaron for the 12 months I was with him, I think he will play next season. He has a love affair with the game of football. Not only the game of football, but the process. He is still really capable, and I think he will be back working with his teammates and playing football for the Steelers.”
While Tomlin should have an excellent insight as to what will happen with the Steelers, Rodgers’ status has not been announced yet.
Rodgers has played 21 seasons in the NFL, including the first 18 years with the Green Bay Packers. He completed 327 of 498 passes for 3,322 yards with 24 touchdowns and 7 interceptions last year for the Steelers.
