Mets pitcher sounds off on disastrous start in 12-0 loss to Reds

The New York Mets did not have a great start to their workweek, as they suffered a 12-0 loss at the hands of the Cincinnati Reds in a series opener at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mets pitcher Tobias Myers, who had just been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, was clobbered by Cincinnati. He allowed seven earned runs on four hits in just 1 1/3 innings of work before he got replaced on the mound.

The 27-year-old Myers struggled with his location against the Reds and allowed three walks with a strikeout during his short outing.

“We’re in the process of digging deep into that, figuring that out right now. I think that was the main issue overall, just not locating the ball well, getting behind hitters,” Myers said after the game when asked about his command issues (via SNY).  “It’s tough to face major league hitters when you’re behind most of the time. So, yeah, something we’ve already kind of looked at a little bit. We’re going to dig deeper and get to work.”

Myers was optioned by the Mets to the minors in late May. At the time, he had a 4.05 ERA and 4.52 FIP to go along with a 1.080 WHIP in 20 appearances.

“This is kind of something I’ve seen on the mound with my delivery a little bit mechanically, today specifically. So we’re kind of digging deep on that,” added Myers, who was traded by the Milwaukee Brewers along with Freddy Peralta to the Mets in exchange for Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat.

The Mets are now eight games under .500 with a 32-40 record.
