Mets announce intriguing roster moves before Cardinals clash

The New York Mets are still at the bottom of the National League East standings with their 29-37 overall record. The Mets continue to struggle, but they are hoping to turn things around. Before their game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, New York announced two roster moves.

Right-handed pitcher Jonathan Pintaro was recalled from Triple-A, while right-handed pitcher Joey Gerber was optioned to Triple-A, the team announced.

The Mets will likely sell at the trade deadline given their underperformance, but they are not giving up yet. Perhaps Pintaro — who is the team’s No. 20 overall prospect — will help New York get back on track.

The 28-year-old has three total games of MLB experience. He has performed well at the minor league level, however. Pintaro holds a career 3.46 minor league ERA. So far at Triple-A in 2026, he has turned in a 3.16 ERA across 19 appearances.

In recent years, Pintaro has started and pitched out of the bullpen. In 2026, though, he has only worked in relief. He could make a significant impact with the Mets as New York looks for pitching help.

Overall, New York is in last place in the NL East as mentioned. The ball club is 15.5 games out of first place. It seems like reaching the postseason will be an immense challenge, but anything is possible.

For now, the Mets are focused on their upcoming game against the St. Louis Cardinals at home on Wednesday night at 7:10 PM EST. New York will look to bounce back with a big victory.
