Mariusz Wach vows to stop Tyson Fury from fighting Anthony Joshua and sends ‘distraction’ warning

Mariusz Wach is aiming to spring a monumental upset on July 24.

The rugged Polish veteran takes on Tyson Fury in a 10-rounder at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand.

Tyson Fury will have to get through Mariusz Wach on July 24 if he hopes to finally get his hands on Anthony Joshua

The bout is designed to warm Fury up for a blockbuster all-British showdown with Anthony Joshua at the back end of the year, and most see it as a mere formality.

Wach has lost seven of his last ten fights, and at 46 years old, he is far removed from his prime.

However, the old warhorse believes Fury has taken his eye off the ball, and he intends to capitalise on his rival’s perceived lapse in concentration.

“I’m very serious in every professional fight,” Wach told talkSPORT.com in his first interview with the English media since the announcement of his upcoming clash.

“I’ve lost a few fights recently, but I will do my best to stop Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua from happening.

“I imagine that this will be the hardest fight of my career. I train and prepare for this fight as if it is.

“I think that Tyson Fury will not be 100 per cent prepared for this fight because he is thinking about this fight with Joshua.

“I hope that he is very focused on making the Netflix series and that it will affect his preparation.”

Wach is familiar with Fury’s unique skillset from their time sparring together in 2018.

He is aware of the threats the Mancunian poses, but is undeterred by the challenge that lies ahead.

Wach has fought a who’s who of notable heavyweights such as Wladimir Klitschko, Dillian Whyte, Moses Itauma and Alexander Povetkin

“Tyson is a very good fighter, for me, he is a top 3 fighter in the world,” Wach added.

“Tyson is a big fighter, he has very good legs, he has a good balance, he is dynamic, he’s fast, he’s very strong.

“For me, it’s a big honour. Tyson Fury could have chosen any fighter in the world to fight.

“Any fighter in the world would have fought him.

“But it was me, so it’s a big honour for me.

“I sparred with him a few years ago. He was one of the fighters I wanted to fight most…

“I am not afraid of Tyson, I am not afraid of the heat and humidity.”
