Man City vs Aston Villa prediction

Sunday’s final game of the season at the Etihad Stadium is likely to be an emotional one, in what is thought to be Pep Guardiola’s final match in charge of the team after 10 successful years, in which he’s won 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles, three FA Cups and a Champions League.

It is also guaranteed to be the final game at the club for both Bernardo Silva and John Stones, who have spent nine and 10 years at the club respectively, and having represented Manchester City on 459 and 296 occasions across those years.

Manchester City have already won the domestic cup double this season, but Wednesday night confirmed that they won’t be able to make a treble after their draw at Bournemouth confirmed Arsenal as Premier League champions, ending a run of nine wins in 10 matches which put them well and truly back in the title race.

The Cityzens will be determined to end the campaign on a high though, particularly with the match marking the end of so many eras.

Victory at the Etihad would mean Guardiola’s side have picked more points at home this season than any other team in the Premier League, the only domestic defeat they suffered coming in their very first home game against Tottenham.

Aston Villa make the trip to Manchester in jubilant mood on Sunday, though may still have slightly sore heads, having been crowned Europa League champions on Wednesday night following an emphatic 3-0 win over Freiburg in Istanbul, ending a 30 year wait for a major trophy.

Unai Emery, who won a record extending fifth Europa League title in the week, has led his side to three wins in his last four matches for Villa, but will be expecting to rest some of his players with nothing tangible left to play for on the final day.

The Villans will be hopeful of securing a fourth place finish, which would equal their highest league finish since 1993, but even if they drop down to fifth, this season will be considered an overwhelmingly successful one, with a European trophy and Champions League football to look forward to next season.

The West Midlands side have won three of their last five matches against Manchester City, but have lost on their last 10 visits to the Etihad Stadium.

Neither team have anything much to play for on Saturday but the home side will be determined to end the Guardiola and Stones/Silva era on a high, so can be expected to pick up all three points on Sunday, a 3-1 home win perhaps in store.

Man City vs Aston Villa betting tips

Pep’s fond farewell

Manchester City will be desperate to end the eras of (potentially) Pep Guardiola, Bernardo Silva and John Stones with a win, and will be expected to do so having won their last four matches at the Etihad, not losing a domestic match on their home patch since their very first of the season.

Emery will likely ring the changes for Villa after they ended a 30 year trophy drought on Wednesday night with a thumping 3-0 win over Freiburg in Istanbul in the Europa League final.

Man City have 16 of their last 17 home matches against Aston Villa, including each of their last 10.

Haaland on hand

Erling Haaland scored his 38th goal of the season on Tuesday night in a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth, meaning the Norwegian striker has now scored in his last five matches for Manchester City.

Cash carded

Matty Cash has been on the receiving end of more yellow cards this season than any other Aston Villa player, having picked up his 12th booking of the campaign in Wednesday’s Europa League final.

The Poland defender will have a tricky afternoon ahead of him up against Jeremy Doku on Man City’s left flank, arguably the most in form player in the Premier League at the moment.
