Lynx rookie Olivia Miles joins elite group with impressive WNBA debut

Olivia Miles made incredible WNBA history following her debut performance in the Minnesota Lynx’s season opener against the Atlanta Dream on Saturday night.

Miles entered the league as the second overall pick of the 2026 draft, starting her career with the Lynx. She enjoyed an incredible collegiate career at Notre Dame and TCU, shining as one of the best players in the country.

Miles is now picking up where she left off, impressing in his career debut. In 34 minutes of action, she finished with 21 points, eight assists, three rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. She shot 6-of-14 from the field, including 1-of-2 from beyond the arc, and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. Her efforts allowed her to become the fifth player in league history to put together a historic rookie stat line in their debut, per reporter Alexa Philippou.

“Olivia Miles (21 points, 8 assists) became the 5th player to record 20+ points and 5+ assists in their WNBA debut, joining Candace Parker, Tonya Edwards, Dawn Staley and Cynthia Cooper,” Philippou wrote.

How Olivia Miles, Lynx played against Dream

Despite Olibia Miles’ incredible efforts in her first WNBA game, the Lynx fell short at home in a 91-90 heartbreaker to start the 2026 campaign.

Minnesota enjoyed solid momentum as the squad led 52-37 at halftime. However, their offense suffered lapses of bad form as Atlanta went on to outscore them 54-38 in the last 20 minutes of regulation.

Four players scored in double-digits for Minnesota in the loss, including Miles. Kayla McBride delivered a stat line of 18 points, three assists, two rebounds, and a steal. She shot 6-of-12 overall, including 2-of-6 from downtown, and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. Courtney Williams came next with 14 points and six rebounds, while Emma Cechova provided 12 points and three rebounds.

The Lynx will look to bounce back in their second game of the season, playing their first road contest. They take on the Phoenix Mercury as the game commences on May 12 at 10 p.m. ET.
