Lucas Herbert, Sam Burns make major championship history at The Open
It is often said that records are meant to be broken.
Nobody talks about that records are also meant to be tied, too.
Friday saw a particularly impressive record tied… and then tied again! Lucas Herbert carded a 62 during his second round at the Open Championship, good for 8-under, and shortly after he finished Sam Burns matched it.
With all due respect to Herbert, Burns’ 62 came with a bit more flare as he holed out from the bunker to get in at the mark. It doesn’t matter how you get there though, and both Herbert and Burns tied the lowest men’s major round in history.
Herbert specifically left Friday’s round as the solo leader with Burns three shots behind him. It stands to reason that both are going to be in the mix over the weekend as the field battles it out for the Claret Jug.
