LeBron James’ 32-0 record is on line after Lakers go up 2-0 on Rockets
There will be plenty of optimism for Los Angeles Lakers fans around the world after their 101-94 win against the Houston Rockets in Game 2 of their playoff series. If there were detractors after LA won Game 1 in the absence of Kevin Durant, the discourse is bound to change after the Lakers delivered a resounding performance across the board in the second game.
And while the 41-year-old LeBron James appears to break positive records on a gamely basis, the win also means he has a stunning playoff record to protect in Game 3, set to take place in Houston. James has a 32-0 record in playoffs after leading a series 2-0, which means a Houston victory at home will bring an end to the streak, per a post on X by ClutchPoints.
Still, the Lakers showed no signs of wanting to slow down anytime soon in Game 2. LeBron James may have led the charge with 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
However, a range of his teammates stepped up as well. Marcus Smart and Luke Kennard combined for 48 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists and a whopping eight steals, with Smart getting five of them.
Rui Hachimura added 13 points and five rebounds, although the Lakers’ efforts at the other end of the court were equally impressive. They forced 15 turnovers from Houston and limited Kevin Durant to just three second-half points, although he still led Houston in scoring with an overall 23 points.
The Lakers were once again dominant from the three-point zone, going 46.45% from beyond the arc as Houston was limited to just 24.1%. Of course, James has already hit back at critics in the first two games.
In the absence of both Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic, as many as 12 of the 14 ESPN experts had predicted a Rockets series win, with most expecting a blowout for the Rockets. However, James has led his team to two utterly impressive victories, and LA will be hoping that they regain full fitness in good time, and emerge as bonafide title contenders in the business end of the season.
