Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith is currently on the injured list due to neck inflammation. It was initially uncertain how much time he would miss due to the injury, but it seems as if Smith’s recovery may be taking longer than some expected. According to David Vassegh of Dodger Talk, Smith has not begun baseball activities and he is not expected to be activated during the team’s current road trip.

The level of concern would be lower if Smith simply was not being activated during the road trip but had begun baseball activities. The fact that he has yet to begin baseball activities suggests he may not be especially close to returning. With that being said, there is no official timeline for his return right now and things could obviously change.

Smith, 31, has hit .249/.338/.382 to go along with six home runs and five doubles so far this season. The three-time All-Star is one of the best catchers in all of baseball.
