The New York Knicks have been able to rest and rejuvenate since eliminating the Cleveland Cavaliers from the Eastern Conference Finals in a four-game sweep. Since the Knicks won’t have to play in the NBA Finals until next week, they have had a chance to get creative and take care of their own injuries.

Center Mitchell Robinson had surgery on his pinky finger since the end of the Cleveland series. There’s some mystery as to how he injured himself, since head coach Mike Brown said the malady did not occur in a game or during a Knicks practice. Robinson is known for his defensive and rebounding contributions. He struggles on the offensive end, particularly when it comes to free throw shooting.

Teammate Jordan Clarkson decided to create something of a humorous and reverential photo regarding his teammate. He put up a photo of himself and Robinson sitting together on the Knicks bench. Clarkson is examining a digit or two on Robinson’s hand, and the finger is lit up as if it had been touched by the Gods.

Free throw shooting bedevils Robinson

What makes the shot even more humorous is that there’s very little about Robinson’s fingers that are magical. Especially when it comes to shooting free throws.

Robinson struggles badly at the free throw line and opponents regularly foul him so that he goes to the line. He made 40.8 percent of his free throws during the regular season, and the performance has been even worse in the postseason. He is connecting on 30.2 percent of his free throws in the playoffs.

Despite the injury and the surgical intervention, the Knicks are hoping to have Robinson available at some point in the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs or the Oklahoma City Thunder. Those two teams will meet in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals Saturday in Oklahoma City, and the winner will face the Knicks for the NBA title.
