Knicks Mikal Bridges’ sage advice to teammates on dealing with NBA Finals media hubbub

Ahead of New York Knicks forward Mikal Bridges’ second NBA Finals appearance, he offered advice to his teammates regarding dealing with the media. Bridges, who competed for a title in 2021 as a member of the Phoenix Suns, wants his team to sustain its focus throughout the best-of-7 series. For the first time in 26 years, the Finals are back at Madison Square Garden, as the Knicks will host Games 3 and 4 in The Big Apple.

Bridges is warning his Knicks teammates not to get caught up in the media’s narratives and storylines, while focusing on improving, he said, per the New York Post’s Jared Schwartz.

“Just worry about what we have to do to be better. Not get too into the media and all the stuff,” Bridges said. “A lot of questions, a lot of talk about how great we are, how great we’ve been. That doesn’t matter, we just gotta worry about being ourselves and stay locked in. And go win.”

The Knicks will face the winner of the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs series, as the defending champions hold a 3-2 lead heading into Game 6 on Thursday.

Stephen A Smith on Mike Wilbon’s Knicks take

Avid Knicks fan and ESPN analyst Stephen A Smith trolled Mike Wilbon for not believing in his underdog squad. Perhaps, this is the kind of fodder that Knicks forward Mikal Bridges was relating to. Smith believes the Knicks will win it all, he said, per ESPN’s Get Up.

“Just one segment after spitting facts, wisdom, and utter brilliant candor on Mike Vrabel on [Get Up], this man [Mike Wilbon] is now messing with the euphoria surrounding the [Knicks],” Smith said. “All this man wants to do is laugh at me. He’s setting the stage. But I see you, [Mike Wilbon]. I see you, Big Bro!”

For a fanbase that hasn’t seen their team compete for a title in 26 years, the Knicks’ return to the Finals is exciting.
