Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns sends touching message to late mother after Game 2 win
Karl-Anthony Towns has been playing the best basketball of his career in the 2026 NBA playoffs, and that’s continued all the way to the NBA Finals. The New York Knicks are now just two wins away from winning it all and breaking a 53-year title drought after earning a hard-fought 105-104 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 on Friday night, and Towns has played a crucial part in bringing the Knicks this far.
With the Knicks falling down by double digits early in the game, it was Towns who emerged as the team’s most consistent weapon. He outplayed Victor Wembanyama during that time frame and ended up with 21 points and 13 rebounds all while playing stout defense on the Spurs star.
It looks like a guardian angel in the form of his late mother has been watching over Towns, and the Knicks star couldn’t be any more grateful to see the ball clank off the back iron on the final possession, sealing their Game 2 victory.
“It’s amazing. As you go through life, when you lose a parent, you just look for signs. I prayed to her strong before that possession. A great player got a shot and it just didn’t go in. It’s great defense. Shout out to Mitch (Robinson), shout out to our team. But you know, I take it as a sign that my mom was here. I appreciate her so much,” Towns told ABC’s Lisa Salters following the Knicks’ win.

Towns heartbreakingly lost his mother back in April 2020, when Jackie Cruz-Towns passed away due to complications after contracting COVID-19. It was the Knicks star who made the decision to pull the plug and let his mom pass on peacefully.
He’s clearly been playing as if he has a chip on his shoulder. Towns’ mom will always be proud of him no matter what, but she’d be beaming and jumping for joy if she were alive to see how close her son is to winning it all and reaching the pinnacle of success in the NBA.
